Arch Semester Away International Opportunities
Students may elect to undertake an international activity during the semester away of the  Arch.  Possible activities include exchange or non-affiliated study abroad, research or international volunteer service. The Office of International Programs will support students in their search for a suitable opportunity.  Students who wish to pursue an international co-op or professional experience should contact the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD).

Approval and Registration
Approval of Arch international activities will be a joint process between the Office of International Programs (OIP) and academic departments. A student must be in good academic standing and free of any ‘holds’ on their student account in order to receive approval. Students who participate in an approved activity will remain registered at Rensselaer during the Arch
Please Note:

Students who wish to engage in an international study, research or volunteer activity during the Arch must create an account in the study abroad portal, complete an application and supply all required documentation.
  • In order for credit to be transferred for non-affiliated study abroad, all classes must be evaluated and approved by the relevant School/Departmental Study Abroad Transfer Credit Approval Evaluator.  Students should follow the guidelines for the transfer of credit for non-affiliated study abroad.
  • Research opportunities at affiliated partner institutions are non-credit bearing.
  • Students must be engaged in any international experience for the equivalent of 6 hours per week or more in order to remain registered at Rensselaer.
  • Rensselaer has no formal affiliation with non-affiliated universities/organizations. Students are highly encouraged to seek information about and check references for any opportunity that they wish to pursue.
